一類為溫度補償類NPO電介質這種電容器電氣性能最穩定，基本上不隨溫度、電壓、時間的改變，屬超穩定型、低損耗電容材料類型，適用在對穩定性、可靠性要求較高的高頻、特高頻、甚高頻電路中。

二類為高介電常數類X7R電介質由于X7R是一種強電介質，因而能制造出容量比NPO 介質更大的電容器。這種電容器性能較穩定，隨溫度、電壓時間的改變，其特有的性能變化并不顯著，屬穩定電容材料類型，使用在隔直、耦合、傍路、濾波電路及可靠性要求較高的中高頻電路中。

三類為半導體類Y5V電介質這種電容器具有較高的介電常數，常用于生產比容較大、標稱容量較高的大容量電容器產品。但其容量穩定性較X7R差，容量、損耗對溫度、電壓等測試條件較敏感，主要用在電子整機中的振蕩、耦合、濾波及旁路電路中。

　　獨石電容比一般瓷介電容器大（10pF~10μF），且電容量大、體積小、可靠性高、電容量穩定，耐高溫，絕緣性好，成本低等優點，因而得到廣泛的應用。獨石電容器不僅可替代云母電容器和紙介電容器，還取代了某些鉭電容器，廣泛應用在小型和超小型電子設備(如液晶手表和微型儀器)中。
